Extracurricular Activities
Art Club (TES)
The TES Art Club is open to 4th grade students. Student artists have the opportunity to explore various types of art media and techniques beyond the regular art curriculum. Emphasis is placed on artistic process, imagination, and individual expression.
Band (OMS)
Students in grades 5-8 are invited to participate in the OMS instrumental program. Instruction is offered on traditional band instruments such as flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, percussion, and electric bass. Participants attend a weekly like-instrument lesson at which fundamentals and skill development are fostered. In addition, performance music is introduced and rehearsed at lessons.
5th grade participants make up the Blue Band, which rehearses after school on Wednesdays. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders make up the Gold Band, which rehearses after school on Mondays. In addition, middle school instrumental music students are eligible to participate in Jazz Ensemble. This group rehearses during school hours during non-academic periods. The bands will participate in the winter and spring concerts.

Participants attend a weekly like-instrument lesson at which basic fundamentals and skill development are fostered. In addition performance music is introduced and rehearsed at lessons. Students will participate in the winter and spring concerts. After school band practices will start in January or February.
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books participants compete to earn a place on one of the OMS teams that will compete against other schools in the Burlington County Battle of the Books Championship. There are two levels of competition: one for 5th and 6th graders, and another for 7th and 8th graders. School and County battles are held in the spring. Teams earn points by correctly answering questions from a selection of 15 books chosen each year by the librarians of participating schools. The current list of Battle of the Books titles can be found on the OMS Media Center’s website.
Chess Club (TES)
Chess Club is open to grades 3-4. This activity begins in late winter and runs through the spring.
Chorus (OMS)
The Olson Middle School Chorus is open to students in grades 5-8. There are no prerequisites to join, and everyone is welcome. The chorus performs at the winter and spring concerts and meets 1-2 times per week.
Chorus (TES)
The Tabernacle Elementary School Chorus is open to all students in 4th grade. There are no prerequisites to join and all 4th graders are welcome. The TES Chorus meets one afternoon per week after dismissal September through December, ending with a performance at the December Winter Concert.
Drama (OMS)
Drama auditions occur in the beginning of December, and the show is performed in the spring. This activity meets three times a week. Every student is welcome to audition, and we also welcome those interested in Stage Crew.
Drama (TES)
TES Drama will begin meeting in January. This activity meets twice a week. and the show is performed in the spring. All 4th grade students are welcome.
Esports (OMS)
Students in 7th & 8th grade will be part of a team where they will feel empowered, be included in a safe, inclusive space and learn how to protect those spaces through self-advocacy and bystander intervention training. Connections will be discovered through gaming, social & emotional learning, health & wellness, and digital citizenship.
Handchimes (OMS)
Students in grades 5-8 may elect to participate in this performing ensemble. It is not a prerequisite to have played in 4th grade; newcomers are invited to join. The OMS chimes rehearse after school on Thursdays and participate in the winter and spring concerts.

Students in grade 4 may elect to participate in this performing ensemble. The TES chimes rehearse after school on Tuesdays and participate in the winter and spring concerts.
Student Council (OMS)
Student council is a service organization open to all OMS students. The council plans school activities throughout the year.
